Following the instructions below, design a 25 to 30 minute Service of the Word (NOT Communion) and deliver it on any day of the week apart from a Sunday. Don't use an existing service slot, create a new one and invite people to it (this will maximise your 'Opportunities').

• Choose a particular spirituality from Session 8 upon which to base your service.

• Use the GOPIA method of service design to create the service

• Use the lectionary readings for the Sunday preceding the day of delivery

• Take note of the liturgical season and make sure the service fits appropriately within it.

• Include the elements of 'A Service of the Word' you learned about on the first Shared Learning Morning (there is a link to the slide outlining the elements in the Resources section below)

• Use Common Worship and Patterns for Worship/New Patterns for Worship (available on line on the CofE website) to create the liturgical elements 

• Ensure there is some musical content (even if it's singing unaccompanied or listening to a piece of music)

• In place of a sermon or talk, create a prayer exercise of 5-6 minutes that everyone can take part in. Make sure it includes an action as this is part of the GOPIA method.

 

You can do this in church or on Zoom. If you are doing this on Zoom, make sure everyone knows in advance what they will need for the exercise so that they can gather it. If you are doing it physically, make sure you have enough of the resources you will need for everyone to take part. 

 

Submit an outline of the service to the module leader via email 2 weeks prior to delivery

Submit the final audio recording of the service after delivery, along with the booklet or Powerpoint Slides you used, via your GoogleDrive folder (please email dawn.glen@derby.anglican.org if you need a reminder of the link).

Write (or audio record) a 1000 word rationale for your service, remembering to refer to the course material throughout.

 

Make sure you include:

• An explanation of your Givens

• An explanation of the Opportunities you identified

• Your single sentence Purpose statement

• The controlling image you chose to use and why you chose it

• An explanation of the Action you chose to use and why you chose it

• Your arguments for your choices of placement of each item

• References the course material throughout

• A full bibliography at the end. 

 

Submit a draft outline to the module leader via email before writing up.
