


The outcomes we expect you to demonstrate in this assignment are:

The abillity to describe the definitions, and different types and models, of pastoral care

The ability to articulate some of the questions and issues presented by those in need of pastoral care and those who provide pastoral care, including the power dynamics present

The ability to understand and explain the theological basis for Pastoral Care and its place in the Christian faith

​The ability to recognise the importance of – and how – knowledge of context and genre affects interpretations of biblical and theological texts in the context of pastoral care
-
The ability to respond sensitively to pastoral situations, and reflect on these in the light of learning from this module, communicating findings accurately and reliably
-
The ability to apply your learning to your own parish context

The ability to gather, organise and present materials for a set task within the perameters described (ie deadline dates, instructions, timings and word count etc).

The ability to reference correctly and include a bibliography.

You must cover all the above outcomes in order to pass. Higher marks will be given for clarity of expression and structure, interesting engagement with the relevant material, and depth of critical thinking and theological reflection. Please refer to the Assignnment Handbook here before you start.

Option 1 - Project
Ensuring you cover all the above outcomes, investigate the pastoral care that is carried out in your parish and, in no fewer than 2,300 and no more than 2,500 words, write up what you have found. End by reflecting on the strengths and weaknesses of the care being carried out in your parish, any gaps you have identified and what opportunities there may be for new pastoral care initiatives.

Option 2 - Presentation
Ensuring you cover all the above outcomes, investigate the pastoral care that is carried out in your parish. From this, create and deliver a 25 to 30 minute presentation to either your PCC, your Leadership Team, or to camera. Audio or video record your presentation. End by reflecting on the strengths and weaknesses of the care being carried out in your parish, any gaps you have identified and what opportunities there may be for new pastoral care intiatives.

Option 3 - Theological Reflection
Ensuring you cover all the above outcomes, create a theological reflection of no fewer than 2,300 words and no more than 2,500 words, on what you have learned about pastoral care in this module. The second half should be a reflection on how you see pastoral being carried out in your own parish, the strengths and weaknesses of what you see and what opportunities there are for new initiatives.
